When your loved one’s doctor gives you the diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, it can be emotionally devastating for your family.  Questions flood your mind.  What do I do now?  Where do I go from here? Who do I trust for professional guidance?  How do I assure that my loved ones will have quality of life as the disease progresses?

On Nov. 6, 2009, Valparaiso Care & Rehabilitation Center opened a structured, specialized research-based program to care for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory challenges.   This program provides a person-centered approach and home-like setting.  Auguste’s Cottage Memory Care Center provides distinct programs designed to fit the needs of residents through each stage of their Alzheimer’s or dementia journey.

Excellent healthcare is always provided, but quality of life is our primary focus.  Auguste’s Cottage feels like home: warm and inviting, safe and secure.  The interactive wall art tells a story and encourages residents to reminisce.  The grounds are beautiful, perfect for supervised strolls or bird-watching.  Stimulating daily activities are offered and encouraged to sustain independence and promote a healthy spirit. We take every step necessary to provide an independent, dignifying experience for each resident.

Auguste’s Cottage is designed to follow the ebb and flow of the typical Alzheimer’s or dementia experience.  An individualized daily living program encourages residents to participate in various mental and physical activities throughout their day.

Compassionate, friendly, patient, and knowledgeable are just a few ways to describe Auguste’s Cottage caregivers.  Our staff is dedicated to giving our residents the dignity, respect and love they deserve.  We use hugs and physical touch to communicate security and belonging.  Each member of our staff receives comprehensive, on-site training and education in Alzheimers, dementia and memory challenges.  We use a team approach and strong compassion for those we serve.

Auguste’s Cottage; Valparaiso Care & Rehabilitation Center, 464-4976, 606 Wall St., Valparaiso,  is an inviting place to call home.  Contact Cory Soller, Admissions/Marketing Director or Jane Barrick, Memory Care Facilitator to schedule a personalized tour.  We welcome walk-in visits.
