New faces and new programs at The Caring Place

The Caring Place, located at 3107 Cascade Dr. in Valparaiso, is a not-for-profit social service organization, serving the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims. They primarily serve victims in Lake, Porter and Starke counties in Northwest Indiana, but may occasionally provide for victims across the country.
They now have some new faces helping them in their mission to provide safe shelter, community education, support groups, independent living planning, legal counseling and case management to those who need it.

Lindsey Gargas was hired as the development coordinator for The Caring Place. She is a member of Lake Area United Way’s Marketing and Communications Board and has also been involved with GRANTS, Inc. Gargas has done numerous philanthropic events in Lake and Porter counties for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Hilltop Neighborhood House and other organizations. Gargas will be responsible for fundraising efforts for The Caring Place as well as working on public outreach and coordinating special events.
“Creating public awareness and fundraising are two areas which will take The Caring Place to the next level,” Gargas said.
Also, Meredith Mohlke, the Porter County Victim Advocate, joined The Caring Place team. She is bilingual and will help The Caring Place reach out to the Hispanic community. Mohlke looks forward to building up The Caring Place’s Emergency Response Volunteers program as she brings awareness to the community as well as college students.
“We provide a lot of great services. We provide a helping hand to everyone who walks through our doors,” Mohlke said.
The Caring Place would like to welcome back Kate Snodgrass as she returns to the staff as the Porter County Legal Advocate. Her objective is to provide legal assistance as well as legal information to those who seek assistance.
“The service that we provide the community is very critical and beneficial,” Snodgrass said. “I felt this opportunity is the best way to help and the people are amazing to work with.”
