Alzheimer's awareness seminars in Valparaiso and Portage

The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana continues its series of educational programs on Alzheimer’s, featuring information on a variety of topics that are of interest to all community members with a focus towards caregivers.
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana will be hosting two educational programs, entitled “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease” in honor of National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. The first on program will be held in Valparaiso during an evening presentation. The second program, a day-time presentation, will be held in Portage.
“The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease” will provide basic information about memory loss issues and what they mean for all of us. Using the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s disease, this program compares the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease to normal aging. We will also cover an overview of how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, causes and risk factors and information on obtaining a diagnosis. The program will end with a question and answer session.
The programs are free and open to the Public. The locations and times of these free programs are:
Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Center, located at 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. Reservations are required and can be made to 800-541-1861 for this presentation.
Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. at the Portage Library, located at 2665 Irving Street in Portage. Reservations are encouraged and can be made to 800-272-3900 for this program.
