The Hobart Food Pantry is one of the few pantries that distributes food to clients each week, and heir efforts are made possible thanks strictly to volunteer labor and donations. Over 200 cans of soup are distributed each week as the pantry now serves approximately 130-150 families and senor citizens.

They expect that number to increase during the holiday season.

Along with two major food drives by the Kiwanis and Postal workers, several local organizations contribute to the pantry. Local churches regularly bring in donations from members of their congregations.

St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart runs a food drive during the holiday season and the School City of Hobart and Hobart students have two huge drives at Thanksgiving and Easter.

The pantry’s executive director, Theresia Larimore, feels the service they give to the community is a reflection of how the city takes care of each other.

“We here at the pantry are grateful for the generous support of our community,” she said. “The annual Postal and Kiwanis food drives were very successful.”

Larimore extended sincere wishes for the upcoming holidays on behalf of the volunteers at the Hobart Food Pantry. But she also encouraged more people to get involved to help the less fortunate.

“If you are not a donor, we are asking you to get involved by making a donation to the pantry,” Larimore said. “You can make a positive and lasting difference in our community.”
