Age may be just a number, but as that number increases, it may become increasingly difficult to live at home and do all of the things that are not so easy to do anymore.

But that does not mean continuing to live at home has to be impossible.

When age or disabilities make everyday tasks that much harder, ComForcare Senior Services of Valparaiso is there to make living at home that much easier. Their services extend to those in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties who need a little extra help in order to continue living at home.

Valparaiso resident Gina Kelly had always longed to start her own business. After years of working at an Italian restaurant and a stint working for Valparaiso Community Schools, Kelly successfully opened ComForcare Senior Services of Valparaiso.

“My compassion and willingness to give back to the senior community inspired me to open a business in the home care industry,” Kelly said. “It’s very rewarding to know that I can help make a difference in someone’s life.”

ComForcare Senior Services is a franchised provider of private-duty, non-medical home care that provides assistance with activities of daily living, or ADLs. Their services include transportation, home safety inspections and personal response systems as well as meal preparation, medication reminders, Alzheimer’s care, bathing and personal care, light housekeeping and much more.

“After much research, I found that ComForcare Senior Services had a great business model with a proven record of success,” Kelly said. “Starting up the business was very exciting, but intimidating at the same time.”

Services are provided primarily to seniors, but individuals with disabilities, accident victims, new mothers or those recovering from a recent illness or surgery can also benefit from what ComForcare Senior Services has to offer. Services are available on an hourly basis, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year from fully-bonded and insured caregivers.

The business has also brought jobs to the area and contributed to the local economy while increasing the quality of life of many individuals.

“Things are going well and the business is slowly growing. The community has been very supportive,” Kelly said.

For Kelly, growing up working for a family business gave her the opportunity to see all the hard work involved and the sacrifices that have to be made in order to be successful.

“This instilled a strong work ethic in me and I have applied it to my own business,” Kelly said. “I know that being a successful business owner will take time and dedication.”

ComForcare Senior Services is located at 209 E. Morthland Dr. in Valparaiso, and they offer at least 50 ways in which they can help those who need it 24 hours a day, seven days a week including holidays. For more information, call 219-462-2400, or visit www.valparaiso.comforcare.com.
