It’s January, which means snowflakes, cabin fever and the Midwest Cornhole Bowl in Northwest Indiana.
Radio One Communications stations Indiana 105, X-Rock 103.9, Z-107 and AM-1500 WAKE , along with Miller Lite, invite you to watch as 64 teams vie for bean-bagging rights in the second Midwest Cornhole Bowl at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville on Jan. 29.
Like the inaugural 2010 event, the Cornhole Bowl will feature teams from the greater Midwest area to compete in a charity event raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
ìWe’re proud to partner with the Radisson and St. Jude’s to bring such an exciting event to Northwest Indiana for the second year in a row, and this year it will be bigger and better,î said Leigh Ellis, president and general manager of Radio One Communications. Radio One Communications is the parent company of four radio stations serving Northwest Indiana ñ Indiana 105, X-Rock 103.9, Z107.1 and AM-1500 WAKE Classic Country The Legend.
The competition will feature 10 pits and 64 teams in a double-elimination tournament. The Winners Bracket is best two-out-of-three games to 21, and the Losers Bracket is one-and-done.† Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the first bag being tossed at 11 a.m. Admission is free and there is plenty of room for the spectators to see the best Cornhole players in the Midwest. There will be food and of course Miller Lite beer available for participants and spectators. Meet your favorite radio air personality along with the Miller Lite Girls and more.
This is the fifth Cornhole tournament that Radio One Communications has organized in Northwest Indiana since 2009. A 2009 tourney at the Porter County Fair in Valparaiso raised funds for the American Cancer Society. In 2010 events at the county fairs in Porter and Lake counties raised over $2,500 for the American Cancer Society, and funds were also raised that same year for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Registration is open at any one of the Radio One Communications sites ñ www.indiana105.com, www.xrock1039.com, www.Z1071.com or www.wakeradio.com.
For more information, call Ellis at 219-462-6111, or Cinda White, associate director, ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Central Region-Indianapolis, at 317-587-0925.
