Annually since 2002, the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso honors outstanding volunteers in the Greater Valparaiso area through their Community Volunteer of the Year Award program. Any community based not-for-profit organization in the Valparaiso area may nominate one volunteer. All nominees receive special recognition, and one is selected to receive a $500 donation to their nominating agency.

Nominees must be unpaid volunteers and should be available to attend a Kiwanis Club luncheon program on June 1. The one-page nomination form is due on March 18. The Kiwanis Club is limiting the nominees to the first 12 received. Therefore, it is important that not-for-profit agencies submit a nomination as soon as possible.

Nominees will be selected based on the quality and quantity of their volunteer contributions and the effect of their efforts on the community. Selection preference may be given to nominees who have served as volunteers through the years  and contributed significant quality time to volunteer activities.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding volunteers in the area, promote volunteerism, encourage increased volunteerism within the community and celebrate Valparaiso’s “strong spirit of volunteerism.” The award may be presented to an individual only once in his/her lifetime.

The Valparaiso Kiwanis Club Foundation Board of Directors will make the final selection from the nominations received. The Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso (Noon Club) Board of Directors will then vote on the decision of the Foundation Board, and the Board of Directors will make the final decision on this award, without recourse to any appeal. The award presentation will be conducted at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso (Noon Club) or as determined by the Club Board of Directors.

The Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso, commonly known as the Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis Club, was formed in 1921. For over eighty years, The Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso has been giving back to the community that has provided such a rewarding lifestyle for its members by supporting worthwhile charities, social services and civic projects.
