Centier Bank promotes branch manager

Lauren Hageman has been promoted to Bank Officer at Centier Bank Hageman is branch manager of Centier’s Valparaiso grocery store branch located inside of Town & Country Food Market, 1605 Calumet Ave.

As branch manager, Hageman is responsible for daily operations of the branch and leading a team of customer service representatives. As a member of the Centier branch management team, she leads a team of associates that provide professional and personalized service with every interaction.

A resident of Valparaiso, Hageman has worked for Centier for 14 years. She joined the bank as a teen teller at the Valparaiso North branch. Through the years, Hageman has volunteered her time to the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce and currently works on the Chamber Network Night Committee. She has a degree in human resources from Purdue University.

Portage Corporation announces new executive director

Portage Economic Development Corporation has announced the hiring of Bert Cook as their new Executive Director. Cook started in his new role in early February. Cook was born and raised in Portage and attended Portage High School. He graduated from Purdue University North Central with a bachelor’s degree in business management.

He has continued his education with course work in economic development at Ball State University and Purdue University North Central. For the last five years, Cook has worked for the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation as the Project Manager. In early 2010, he was promoted to Retention and Expansion Coordinator for the La Porte County Economic Development Alliance.

Diane Thalmann, president of the board of directors, said, “The PEDCO Board of Directors has expressed a desire for the organization to become a more active part in the development of the Portage Business Community. As such, we are excited to bring back to Portage an individual with economic development experience, local connections, and enthusiasm about this community.”

In conjunction with the change in personnel, PEDCO has moved its offices to 2642 Eleanor St. in Portage into the building that also houses the Portage Chamber of Commerce.
