Diversified Marketing Strategies, Inc. has awarded $8,000 to five charities associated with the United Ways serving Lake and Porter Counties with donations from the Influential Women of Northwest Indiana event.

These charities were selected and awarded based on capital projects and will complete the following with the funds awarded:

The Caring Place

The Caring Place will purchase rubber mulch for the playground in the backyard for the children in shelter. The Caring Place is doing some remodeling to the upstairs living quarters and adding a nook for the clients to have a quiet area to retreat, read or meditate.

Gabriel’s Horn

Transportation continues to be a significant obstacle for the homeless women that come to Gabriel’s Horn. The money will be used to create a fund to help women get the repairs they need to make their cars safe, functional and legal.

Spring Valley/Housing Opportunities:

A Dress-for-success program: Housing Opportunities will be assisting clients financially with purchasing appropriate interview clothes and clothes for work. In addition, they will be providing financial assistance for clients to get a “make over” so they have workplace suitable hair and makeup.

Lake Area United Way:

St. Jude House

St. Jude House received these extra funds for their child services program, known as LifeBuilder program. The LifeBuilder Program aims to address the challenges and complex needs of children who have witnessed abuse, been abused themselves, and those who are homeless due to the need for their parent to flee an abusive situation. The goal of the LifeBuilder Program is to improve the quality of life for the children by decreasing their emotional distress and current dysfunctional behavior. The program focuses on developing the child’s academic and relational skills through education, development of critical life skills, as well as, identifying and building upon the child’s current strengths and resilience.

Haven House

Haven House will be purchasing a new vacuum cleaner, replacement of eight kitchen chairs and replacement of three sets of bunkbeds.
