Kirk Muspratt, Music Director and Conductor of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, has a grand plan for the orchestra's 70th anniversary celebration of six fall shows

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra announced the symphony’s 2011-2012 season. The season celebrates the 70th anniversary of the orchestra and consists of six concerts, three classical and three pops.

“We have created our concerts with the talent, youth, and spirit of our community at the forefront, and we are proud to be celebrating 70 with you,” said Music Director and Conductor Kirk Muspratt.

The Symphony will begin with an Opening Concert Gala at Star Plaza Theatre and the Celebrity Ballroom in the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza.

This year’s concert is entitled “Swing Time!” and will feature the vocal group Five by Design, celebrating the golden age of radio by performing Big Band Era hits such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing), and Sing, Sing, Sing.

The gala will honor the 70th anniversary of the Symphony’s first concert, which took place on Pearl Harbor Day, as well as the history of American soldiers and the Northwest Indiana region.

Guests can attend the gala dinner at the Radisson Hotel and the concert at Star Plaza Theatre or just the concert itself. The remainder of the season’s concerts will be performed at the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville or The Auditorium at Bethel Church on Broadway in Crown Point.
