Rebuilding Together Duneland is accepting homeowner applications for the April work day. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Rebuilding Together Duneland fills a need in our communities. The rising cost of living and falling social service budgets have left some of our vulnerable neighbors without the most-basic of necessities: A warm, safe and dry home. The nation is facing enormous problems, many of which have reached crisis levels. The costs of owning and maintaining a home are growing exponentially. Healthcare costs are skyrocketing, leaving low-income citizens with less and less disposable income and having to choose between vital necessities and essential home repairs and modifications.

Rebuilding Together Duneland, an affiliate of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization Rebuilding Together, works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. One of the 2011 work day recipients, Salli-Ann, needed wall, floor and door repairs in her home. The Lions Club was her house sponsor.

Salli-Ann summarized her experience: “Now I take much pride in my home, it looks so beautiful inside and out. I am so appreciative for all the hard work! It was such an exciting time in my life and I would like to be a volunteer to spread the joy!”

Rebuilding Together Duneland is seeking donations, house sponsors as well as applicants at this time of year. Remember Rebuilding Together Duneland when you are preparing your year-end tax deductions. With the help of sponsors, donors and volunteers we can preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities by providing free home modifications and repairs; making homes safer, more accessible and more energy efficient.

Emergency projects are accepted year-round. If you or anyone you know needs help, applications are available at Chesterton Ace Hardware, Duneland Chamber of Commerce, Duneland Resale Shop, Westchester Public Library and the Town of Chesterton Building Department. Requests for an application may be sent to P.O. Box 644 Chesterton, IN 46304, via email to info@rtduneland.org, and online at www.rtduneland.org. For more information, call 219-926-3233.
