Residents of Porter and La Porte Counties soon will have the services of St. Mary Medical Center closer to home.

Plans for the hospital’s new Valparaiso Health Center – a 55,000-square foot outpatient center located just east of Indiana 49, off Burlington Beach Road, shows the new Valparaiso Health Center reflects the expansion of services needed to meet the healthcare needs of Northwest Indiana’s growing communities.

“Valparaiso Health Center represents Community Healthcare System’s longstanding history of helping bring a higher quality of life and health to the residents of our communities,” said John Gorski, COO of Community Healthcare System.

“As a Northwest Indiana-based not-for-profit healthcare system, we have a commitment to reinvesting into the technologies and services that contribute to the strength and vitality of our neighborhoods and the people we serve.”

The new Valparaiso Health Center will feature an Immediate Care facility with the support of full-service imaging (CT, MRI, mammography, x-ray, ultrasound and bone densitometry), as well as clinical laboratory services and a hospital-based physical therapy and rehabilitation program.

Specialists in family and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, weight-loss services as well as integrative and functional medicine, surgery and a variety of medical specialties, will round out the spectrum of services available for patients.

“We serve a significant number of patients from the Valparaiso area and this new outpatient center brings together our quality services in another convenient, readily-accessible location,” said Janice Ryba, CEO of St. Mary Medical Center. “The new Valparaiso Health Center is an extension of the high quality, patient-centered medical services available through our hospital, and it’s an important link in our ability to help build healthier communities.”

“Our patients will certainly benefit from the convenience of services offered in this new location,” said Wallace Sherritt, OB-GYN of Innovative Women’s Health, which has been caring for patients in Valparaiso for more than 20 years.

Together with medical and technological advancements, the $18 million, two-story structure will also offer a community education center, allowing patients access to a variety of health care resources, including frequent physician presentations on timely topics and issues related to healthy living. An adjacent “healing garden” will also provide a soothing outdoor space for patients and staff to tap into the restorative qualities of nature.

Those natural elements will also be reflected in the interior spaces. Upon entering the main lobby, visitors will be greeted with a spacious reception area that features a water wall, and a light-filled lounge dotted with towering birch trees and dune grass planters that represent the native landscapes of the region.

“Creating a space that is both welcoming and soothing corresponds with our philosophy of providing elements that help heal the mind and spirit, as well as the body,” adds Ryba. “In health care, we recognize that they all contribute to better overall health and wellness.
