The City of Valparaiso Department of Public Works will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan 2. These weeks will also be “Holiday Cleanout Weeks” during which residents with city trash service can set out up to three cubic yards of extra household trash pickup at no extra charge. Please place extra bags of large items next to your container by 7 a.m. on your pickup day.

Holiday Recycling Tips from Public Works:

Can gift wrap be recycled? In most cases, yes. Gift wrap and tissue can be bagged or placed loose in your recycling container. The package trimmings that are not accepted are metallic, foil and Mylar wrapping and any ribbons or bows. Please separate and place unaccepted items in your garbage.

• Cardboard boxes should also be recycled; please flatten boxes and place larger boxes next to your recycling bin. No Styrofoam packing material please! Styrofoam peanuts and packing material must be thrown away with the trash.

• More and more packaging is being made out of recyclable plastics (clear No. 1 PETE, the type used for beverage bottles) and can be recycled. Look for the recycle symbol and recycle those that are marked.

• If you have an abundance of plastic shopping bags, remember these can be dropped off at many locations in Valparaiso for recycling, but they should not be placed in your curbside recycle container.

• Are you making a New Year’s resolution to clear out old files? Shredded paper can be recycled but should never be placed loose in your recycling bin. Please bag it in plastic trash bags and place it in your bin. These bags will be emptied once they reach the recycling facility.

• Many electronic items including computers, monitors, televisions and DVD players are prohibited from being placed in your municipal garbage where they will be landfilled (Indiana Code 13-20.5). Consider donating working electronic items to thrift stores. Other unwanted electronics, appliances, and even strings of holiday lights can be recycled. Please notify our office if you would like recyclable electronic items picked up on your next trash day. You may also bring them to the Department of Public Works at 406 Don Hovey Drive during regular business hours, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at the Compost Site, 2150 W. Lincolnway, on Saturdays beginning Jan. 7, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Public Works will be conducting a consolidated Christmas tree pick up the week of Jan. 23. To request a Christmas tree pick up, please call the office before Jan. 23 and place the tree to the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday Jan. 23 and they will be picked up that week.

Trees may also be brought to the Public Works Department at 406 Don Hovey Dr., weekdays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Live trees and greens may also be dropped at the compost site on Saturdays, starting Jan. 7, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Always remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel and garland, and separate greens from any wire or metal wreath frames.

Winter Weather Information from Public Works

find buy baclofen over counter online. can you order baclofen privately do you want to buy baclofen online ? cheap with great price and fast  •The Department of Public Works places a priority on public safety and the first responsibility is clearing the roads for safe passage. Public Works is not responsible for clearing driveway approaches and mailboxes. Residents may not place snow back in the roadway per city ordinance; this also applies to private snow removal companies.

• City snowplow operators pay close attention to avoid mailboxes in the right-of-way. Make sure your mailbox does not extend past the curb and the post is sturdy enough to withstand snow that is pushed by the plows. If you believe your mailbox has been hit by a city snowplow, please do the following: Take photos of the damaged mailbox; call Public Works at 219-462-4612 to have a temporary replacement box delivered, if necessary; go to the city’s website ( doxycycline 100mg to buy; doxycycline price walmart; buy doxycycline for fish ; australia. purchase discount medication! doxycycline cost  buy online without prescription in uk. lowest price and best ) and complete the Mailbox Damage Form or request one by calling 219-462-4612. The form may be submitted online or by mail. Be sure to include your photos of damage and all receipts for parts and labor. All claims will be submitted to the city’s insurance carrier; once a claim has been approved, reimbursement checks will be issued by the Clerk Treasurer. Reimbursement will only be issued for like replacements; maximum amount for mailbox replacement is $150, including no more than $25 labor.

The best product to keep concrete in tip-top shape is good old-fashioned rock salt (sodium chloride).

• To facilitate snow removal, do not leave cars parked on street after two inches of snowfall (City Ordinance 72.04).

• Please do not remove stakes that are placed along the curb or in the right-of-way. These stakes are important markers for plow drivers and city utilities.

•Public works appreciates your patience. With more than 140 miles of roadway and 130-plus cul-de-sacs and walkways to clear, the city does its best to maintain safe roadways and pathways. Working together with residents and businesses creates the best conditions.
