American Heart Associatin wants women to be aware

Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of one in three women each year. On average, nearly 24 women die from heart disease and stroke in Indiana each day. But it can be prevented.

So the association puts out the call to share, with sisters, girlfriends and colleagues. The Go Red For women theme is national. Women are encouraged to wear red clothing as they share information.

“You share everything from recipes and work/life tips to deep and emotional moments with the women in your life,” the association points out. “So show how much you want them to live by passing on some lifesaving knowledge.”

The month long enterprise began with a breakfast event at Valparaiso University’s Harre Hall.

Maggie Wilderotter, chairman and chief executive officer of Frontier Communications, was the keynote speaker. Wilderotter’s keynote presentation addressed embracing a work and life balance.
