Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration April 21

How will you celebrate Earth Day 2012? You may already know your plans for Memorial Day. Though not a holiday marked by barbecues or presents, Earth Day, April 22, is an international observation marked by more than 500 million people and many national governments in 175 countries.

The Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration has become a regional event over its seven-year lifetime. Held in Valparaiso, the event connects attendees with environmental organizations, businesses and programs that inspire and teach about ways to live greener in interesting and entertaining ways.

The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a new location, inside the Porter County Expo Center, 215 E. Division Road, Valparaiso.

  10. Free teacher resources available. The Recycling and Waste Reduction District will give away more than 100 science, recycling, nature and children’s books, posters, binders and VHS tapes on a first-come, first-served basis.
  11. Meet Glen the Garbologist, Smokey Bear, NIRPC’s Splash, and Hooper the Hobart Caterpillar, who will be visiting with attendees at the celebration. Your Values Magazine will also take photos of Glen with children and families between 10 a.m. and noon.
