Thursday Adventures Nature Hike

Participants in Westchester Public Library’s summer reading program for children, Into the Woods, are invited to go on a nature hike at the former Dorothy Buell Visitor Center, located on U.S. Highway 12 and Kemil Road (300).  Families of participants are also welcome.  Maps are available at the children’s department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton.

Family House Silent Auction Benefit

Sox tickets, sports memorabilia, an electric log splitter, watercolor paintings and wicker rocking chairs are just a few of the many items guests will have the opportunity to bid on during a silent auction at the Friday, June 22 fundraiser to benefit Family House.

The benefit, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at Strongbow Inn, 2405 U.S. 30, also features beer tasting, a corn hole buy female canada – buy your drugs quick and easy at our reliable tournament and tempting Strongbow Inn hors d’oeuvres for an evening of food and fun.

 All proceeds from this fundraiser will assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the Family House facility, located at 610 Glendale Blvd.

Family House serves Northwest Indiana families by providing a safe, home-like environment where non-custodial parents can spend supervised time with their children. The organization also provides supervised transfers when parents may share custody or visitation of children.  Each year, Family House serves more than 600 families, managing some 2,000 supervised visits and 1,000 visitation transfers.

Hosted by the Valparaiso Family YMCA and the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation, the triathlon consists of a quarter- mile swimming, 12.4 mile biking and 3.2 mile running competitions.

Pines Village Offers Military Veterans Free Transportation to Traveling Tribute

Military veterans aged 60 and up are invited by Pines Village Retirement Communities to a free round-trip air conditioned chartered coach bus ride on July 5 to visit the American Veterans Traveling Tribute and the Traveling Vietnam Wall at Purdue North Central.

The comprehensive tribute will include memorials and exhibits honoring the military, law enforcement, firefighters and displays of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.  The centerpiece is an 80 percent scale version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.  Like the original, the traveling wall lists the names of every American casualty. The memorial is the largest wall replica traveling the U.S.

Veterans and their party of up to 5 guests will travel in comfort to a convenient drop off and pick up location at the entrance to the tribute.   Ample time to tour the tribute will be provided.  Buses will depart from the south parking lot at Valparaiso High School, 2727 N. Campbell St.  Several departure times throughout are the day are scheduled.

Chamber to Host Crazy 8’s Golf Outing

Tickets are now on sale for the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce Jamaican Me Crazy 8’s golf outing on Friday, July 13, at the Brassie Golf Club in Chesterton.

The Jamaican Me Crazy 8’s Golf Outing is an informal, Caribbean-themed event that offers non-golfers the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of informal networking on the course. “No golf skills are required,” said Heather Ennis, the chamber’s executive director. “This game is all about fun.”

The outing begins at 1 p.m. with registration, hors d-oeuvres and networking. A shotgun start for registered golfers is at 2 p.m. At 5 p.m., golfers and guests will enjoy after-play dinner, entertainment and drinks.

Event tickets are $50 per golfer, $180 per foursome or $320 per team of eight. Price includes golf activities, dining, drinks and entertainment.  Hole sponsorships are $50 and are available in limited quantity.

PNC Enrollment Events for Prospective Students

Purdue University North Central, 1401 S. U.S. 421 in Westville, will offer two events this summer for students enrolling in classes.

Admission Day will be June 27. Participants may attend one of two sessions offered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Library-Student Faculty Building Assembly Hall, room 02.
