The following are July classes and events at the Portage Township YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road.  Call 219-762-9622 or visit for more information.

Porter County Fair: The YMCA will be selling wristband for the Porter County Fair which runs July 19-28.  The wristbands will be $12 (a $22 value).   The wristbands will be good for one day of rides at the fair.  You can pick up your wristbands through July 19 at noon.  The YMCA will accept only cash for the bands. 

Kindergarten Review Camp:   Aug. 6-10 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for those entering kindergarten this year.  The camp will review skills and academics needed when entering kindergarten.  A snack will be provided. A minimum of 10 participants must be enrolled to run the camp. 

Child Care and Development Center (full time child care):   Openings for ages 2-5.  The center fills fast so ask for a tour by calling Sarah Senart at 219-792-9622.  July special–$25 off enrollment fee.

College Membership Special:  Full-time college students with schedule or current college ID will receive a single primary plus membership for $31 a month with no joiner fee.  Membership must be purchased by July 31.

Physicals:  In partnership with St. Mary Medical Center, the Portage Township YMCA will be offering school physicals for only $20 on July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. and July 28, from 8 to 11a.m. at Portage High School West.

No Bummer Summer Camp:  Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended care from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Weekly field trips, daily swimming and hot lunches will be provided. Weekly and daily rates available.  CCDF vouchers accepted.

Running Club: Run, train and make new friends on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 6 to 7 a.m.  Amateur runners meet in the lobby of the YMCA. Dress for the weather.  All one hour runs will be outside unless it is lightening.  Participants will be running 3 to 5 miles with calisthenics and stretching.  Must be 14 or older to participate.

Summer Mini-Camps:  Through July 27

  • Kids in the Kitchen:  Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for ages 4-8. Learn how to make your favorite healthy snacks as well as the best part…..eating them!
  • Kids Fit and Fun:  Wednesdays from 10:15 to11:15 a.m. for ages 3-6.  Get moving with interactive games and hands on activities while learning fun facts about healthy lifestyles
  • How Does Your Garden Grow:   Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to12:45 p.m.  Held inside and outdoors, teaching children the responsibility of taking care of plants and learning about the importance they provide to us

Bring Your Own Bike:  Bike the Rails to Trails with the enthusiastic YMCA members, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 to 9 a.m.  This program is free and offered to members.
