The DeMotte Chamber of Commerce is in full swing with the planning of the 2012 Touch of Dutch. The historic parade and festival did not take place as planned in 2011 due to lack of volunteers and some impending sidewalk modifications on Halleck Street, the main street,
The extra time off gave the committee time to regroup and propose planning to the town of DeMotte and its park department for plans to hold the 2012 event at the newest addition in DeMotte’s Spencer Park.
“We believe that having the event at the new park will regenerate some much needed interest in these festivities” said Committee Chairman Carla Jarrette. “It will be a fabulous addition to the community”.
The date set for the daylong event will be Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning with the early morning Rotary Ramble, as done in the past. The arts and crafts festival will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a traditional parade through downtown DeMotte beginning at 10 a.m.
The annual car/bike show, normally taking place in mid to late July, has been moved to accommodate and enhance the 2012 Touch of Dutch. This will allow all entries to the car show admittance into the parade.
The customary food and craft vendors as well as family entertainment all day long will be on hand making this event a “something for everyone” event.
The Spencer Pool will be open and free admission to all as well.
