“Younger people will come because the film is so recognized that people of all age groups still watch it. The film encompasses so many family lessons and people still identify with the values in the film,” Blount said.

The Oz Fest begins at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 and continues through Sunday, Sept. 16. In the movie, Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) is swept away to a magical land in a tornado and embarks on a quest to see the Wizard who can help her return home. Along the way she meets some amazing characters, all of whom have become popular culture icons since the movie’s release in 1939.

Besides Dorothy, perhaps the most enduring character is the villain Wicked Witch of the West and her army of flying monkeys. Good triumphs over evil, of course, and Dorothy finds there is indeed “No Place Like Home” in another iconic catch phrase from the movie.
