Third graders from St. Paul Catholic Elementary School enjoy some of the activities at the VNA Phoenix Center during their recent tour
The VNA Phoenix Center, located at 501 Marquette Street in Valparaiso, recently hosted more than 50 third graders from St. Paul Catholic Elementary School. The children and their teachers, Anna Funk and Jan Halaschak, spent the earlier part of the week making and selling ghost pops to support the VNA Phoenix Center program for grieving children and teens.
“We sold out the first batch we made in just a couple of hours, and then made 600 more,” said Funk. “Those sold out almost immediately and the children were able to raise a total of $632.35.”
The children and their teachers toured the Phoenix Center and learned about the program their handiwork would support.
The VNA Phoenix Center is a program of the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County. The center provides age appropriate peer support groups and activities such as art and music therapy, writing, recreation and memory projects to help children, teens and young adults from kindergarten to college age learn to cope with their grief over the loss of a loved one.
