The 10th Annual Gardening Show sponsored by Purdue University Cooperative Extension and its Porter County Master Gardeners will be held Sat., Jan. 19, at the Porter County Expo, 215 E. Division Rd., Valparaiso,  at 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (CST).  This award-winning event features presentations by national, regional and local gardening experts, special lodging and dining packages, a seed & bulb exchange, garden photography contest, children’s corner, food service, and 100 exhibitors and vendors of products and services for and about gardens and gardening.  Admission is $10, children under 12 free. Free parking and door prizes.

Beginning at 9 a.m., keynote speaker of the 10th Annual Gardening Show, Ed Lyon, Director of the Allen Centennial Gardens, Madison, Wisconsin, will show you design possibilities that go beyond flowers with his presentation, “The New Garden: Foliage, Color and Texture.”   He will help you achieve a garden that provides year-round interest.  Lyon then follows at 10:00 a.m. with “Creepers: Groundcovers and Vines” in which you’ll learn ways to solve those empty-space problems and to cleverly incorporate groundcovers into your garden design.

A host of seminars and demonstrations follow throughout the day. At 10:00 a.m., Organic Small Space Vegetable Gardening by Bill Shores, gardener for Chicago chef, Rick Bayless.

At 11:00 a.m., a panel of: Great Public Gardens Day Trips, Travelogue featuring Cantigny Park (Wheaton, IL), Allen Centennial Gardens (Madison, WI), The Quilt Gardens (Elkhart County, IN) and Chicago Botanic Garden (Glencoe, IL).

At 12:30 p.m., Beyond Summer Annuals: Keep that Color Comin’ and Joy Kaminsky, Director of Horticulture, Cantigny Gardens. Demonstration: Arranging Spring Flowers by Julie Sinclair, Schultz Floral.

At 1:30 p.m., So, Farmer, What’s in My Food? By LuAnn Troxel, President, Indiana Dairy Producers. A Host of Golden Daffodils . . . and More by Jill Selinger, Manager of Continuing Education, Chicago Botanic Garden. And a Demonstration: Pruning Conifers by Melissa Mravec.

At 2:30 p.m., Stretching Bulb Beauty through Four Seasons by Jill Selinger, Chicago Botanic Garden. Growing Small Fruit in a Small Space by Mark Longstroth, Small Fruit Extension Educator, Michigan State University. Wetlands – the Ordinary and the Extraordinary by Vickie Jostes, Lake County Master Gardener.
