Portage Summer Music in the Park

Through collaboration between Portage Parks & Recreation, Portage Chamber of Commerce and Portage Live Entertainment, a 16-concert series of Summer Music in the Park will be presented each Tuesday night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through September 16 at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road in Portage.

All concerts will be held indoors at either the Sycamore Hall or Oakwood Grand Hall.  Concerts are free and open to the public.  Music ranges from 40s & 50s to rock & roll, swing, blues, contemporary and a Jimmy Buffet tribute, all featuring local talent.

Taltree Arboretum & Gardens, 450 W. 100 North in Valparaiso, invites people to its summer concert series, which features a lineup of rock ‘n roll, modern pop and classical music performances.

The Music in Nature concert series runs June through September and supports Taltree’s conservation, restoration and education initiatives. The benefit concert schedule is as follows:

• Friday, June 27:  American English showcases the best of the Fab Four from 1963-1970. This concert wraps up Go Green Fest sponsored by ArcelorMittal. Concert attendees will learn about recycling, water conservation, composting and electric cars.

• Friday, July 18:  The Neverly Brothers play the greatest hits from the 1950s American rockabilly, Rock ‘n Roll and rhythm and blues pioneers up through the 1964 British Invasion.

• Friday, Aug. 8:  Northwest Indiana (NWI) Symphony Strings will play nature-inspired classical music, including selections from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

• Friday, Aug. 22:  NWI Symphony Brass will play popular American composed classics such as the Saints’ Hallelujah.

• Friday, Aug. 29:  NWI Symphony Woodwinds will play a travelogue of popular classics from around the world, including a medley of Gershwin.

• Friday, Sept. 19:  Another Round is the current Indiana University a cappella hit sensation that follows in the footsteps of famed Straight No Chaser.

Each concert event will have raffle prizes and surprises. The American English concert will also have a painted rain barrel silent auction, including a Do-It-Yourself barrel kit. The rain barrels were painted by Porter County organizations and businesses.

All concerts start at 6:30 p.m. The gate opens at 5:30 p.m. Concerts will be held rain or shine. Bring your lawn chair. Taltree Grill will be serving up grilled food, sodas, beer, wine and water. No outside alcohol is allowed. No glass containers will be permitted.

Single tickets are $25 for non-members and $20 for members. Three-concert and six-concert ticket packages are available. Three-concert ticket packages are $70 for non-members and $55 for members. Six-concert ticket packages are $130 for non-members and $100 for members. Six-concert package series are available for purchase until June 27.
