The Portage Township Food Pantry board members were delighted by the generosity and support from the community during the annual U.S. Postal Service Food Drive held May 10.

A total of 7,197 pounds of food was donated by the community, gathered by members of the postal service and delivered to the Portage Post Office.  The food was then distributed to both Nativity and Portage Township Food Pantries.

In addition to the many volunteers who helped to transport and sort donations, the pantries want to thank all of the Portage postal carriers, especially Ronda Colville, Madeleine Gray and Drew Dvorscak, coordinators of the drive.

Donations can be brought to the Portage Food Pantry on the first, third and fourth Friday of each month between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The pantry is located in the back of the New Vistas Educational Opportunities Center (formerly the Portage Adult Ed Center), 5391 Central Ave.  Monetary donations may be made in the form of checks to the Portage Township Food Pantry and mailed to P.O. Box 1582, Portage, 46368.
