The year was 1970. Steve Strong had just returned from serving in the war in Vietnam when he decided to use the tools and discipline he learned in the military to help him start his own remodeling business – Style-Craft. The company offers their services to all of Lake, Porter, and Jasper counties, but also occasionally takes on jobs in Illinois.

“My father started Style-Craft from the ground up,” Ryan Strong said. “He used his military background to build structure in his new business. This was the foundation for the building blocks he was to lay the rest of his career.”

The younger Strong started with a full-time position as an installer in his father’s business in 1994.  He made his way up the company ladder to become project manager and recently took over as president of the company.

Throughout those 20 years, Strong’s father was able to mentor and mold him to become the next leader of the family business. Strong learned about the products Style-Craft uses, the installation methods they pride themselves on, and the important aspects of running a business from his father.

Style-Craft was founded on the idea of tying modern style with traditional craftsmanship. Being a family-owned and operated business, the company prides itself on having the highest level of customer care, workmanship, and value on all of their home improvement services.

They also claim to have the best installation services of vinyl siding, high efficiency replacement windows, shingle and steel roofing, along with gutter systems.  They’re so confident of this that they often encourage their clients to shop around so that they can see that Style-Craft is truly the best option.

In order to always stand behind those promises, the Style-Craft team is constantly innovating the way they operate and strive to keep up with the latest technology as far as products and installation methods. For example, the company recently purchased a steel roofing machine.  This enables Style-Craft to produce their own steel panels for roofs right on the jobsite, which cuts down on the cost for the customer.

The company is also known for their seamless gutter system. They have a machine that bends the gutter material to produce one seamless gutter to the exact size needed for any particular job.

These are just two examples of how Style-Craft is not only saving their customers money by producing materials onsite, but also how they strive to be energy efficient and reduce waste as much as possible.

Style-Craft always keeps the environment in mind, from the products they choose to use to the way they produce materials and install them.

When giving a free consultation, Style-Craft’s home improvement experts not only discuss the exterior of the building or house, but they also cover how the improvements they suggest can make the overall structure more energy efficient.

In addition to promoting the “green” factor of their products and services, Style-Craft offers free, no obligation consultations as well as financing.

“I am proud of what my father started and I will carry on the professional tradition,” Strong said.

“Today Style-Craft has risen to a new level and continues to rise. We now stand proud with 21 employees. When my children are older I will bring them into the business and teach them the business as my father taught me.”

The Style-Craft office is located at 11108 W. 181st Ave. in Lowell. There are also plans to open a second retail show room in the near future. The location will be disclosed at a later date.
