Avalon Springs Health Campus in Valparaiso welcomes Valparaiso and surrounding community members as well as first responders from all of Northwest Indiana to honor first responders on Patriot Day with the first Freedom Chili Cook-Off.

This event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Assisted Living neighborhood of Avalon Springs, located at 2400 Silhavy Road in Valparaiso

The Chili Cook-Off features hot, traditional and unique categories that anyone may enter at $20 per chili fee.

All proceeds will benefit the Valparaiso FOP Lodge 76′s “Shop with a Cop” program.  The program provides back to school supplies, clothes and needed essentials along with holiday food baskets to local children and families that are struggling to make ends meet.

Spectators are welcome, at no charge, to taste the variety of contestant chilies amid sampling beer and wine in the Bistro.  Spectators may purchase tickets to vote on their favorite chili at the event for the Best of Show award, which the esteemed judging panel will be announcing at 7:30 p.m.
