Taltree 10K

Taltree Arboretum & Gardens, 450 W. 100 North in Valparaiso, will host its first ever Taltree 10K run/walk, rain or shine, on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m.

This family friendly 6.2-mile trail run is for serious and not-so-serious runners and walkers. Awards will be given for top overall male and female finishers, top male and female masters and top three finishers in age groups from 14 and under through over 80.

Online registration fee is $30. Register by Friday, Oct. 24 to receive a long-sleeve race shirt. Mail-in and day of race registrations are $35.

Pre-race packet pickup is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 at Extra Mile Fitness Company, 1330 E. Lincolnway in Valparaiso.  Day of registration and packet pick-up begins at 8 a.m. at Taltree.  Race spectators will receive free admission until 9 a.m.

Event proceeds support Taltree Arboretum & Gardens conservation endeavors. Event is sponsored by Extra Mile Fitness Company, Strack & Van Til and St. Mary Medical Center.

Memorial Opera House, 104 E. Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso, brings to the stage the dark, sinister and musical comedy, “The Mystery Of Edwin Drood,” a novel by Charles Dickens that was left unfinished due to his death in 1870.  

The show is staged as a play-within-a-play, with each performer portraying a fictional English actor who, in turn, portrays a Dickens character.  Among the songs featured in this production are “Moonfall,” “The Wages of Sin,” “No Good Can Come From Bad” and “Out on a Limerick.”

Performances will be Fridays, Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and 14; Saturdays, Nov. 1, 8, and 15; and Sundays, Nov. 2, 9, and 16.  Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Ticket prices are adults $21; seniors (57+) $18; and students and military (with valid ID) $18. Group rates are available by contacting the Memorial Opera House box office at 219-548-9137.
