Magazine features Indiana Dunes State Park

The January-February issue of Outdoor Indiana magazine features Indiana Dunes State Park.

The park offers much more than its famous Lake Michigan beach. With more biodiversity than any other Indiana state park and all but three national parks, it’s a prime place for scenic hiking, too, as well as cross-country skiing.

Learn more in the eight-page removable insert booklet on the park, which continues a series in which one state park or reservoir property is portrayed through 2016, the 100th anniversary of Indiana state parks. A short video on the park is at youtube.com/idnrvideos under “Indiana State Parks.”

The 48-page full-color magazine also includes feature on owls and winter bird feeding.

Outdoor Indiana is available now at most Barnes & Noble stores for $4. A one-year, six-issue subscription costs $15. A two-year subscription is $28. Subscribe online or read excerpts at OutdoorIndiana.org.

The 2015 Outdoor Indiana calendar costs $10 and is available by calling 317-233-3046. Magazine subscriptions can be purchased at the same phone number. While supplies last, every new online subscription order will receive a free 2015 Outdoor Indiana wall calendar.

Strengthening Families program

The Family & Youth Services Bureau is now enrolling families for its next session of Strengthening Families, an established parenting and family enrichment program offered at no charge to the participants.

The next session begins on Jan. 15.  Each weekly session will be on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and held at the office of the Family & Youth Services Bureau, 253 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso.

Families are eligible for the program if there are teens in the family between the ages of 12-16 and there is a desire to improve relationships while preventing behavioral problems.

Enrollment in the 14-week program enables the family to develop successful communication skills that can prevent behavior problems and promote healthy daily living.  Typically there are 7 to 10 families in this program, and each family member attends to address issues and develop communications skills.
