Chesterton Feed & Garden Center will be celebrating their 35th anniversary this weekend. Chesterton Feed & Garden Center, originally Chesterton Feed & Supply, has enjoyed a history of more than 80 years of serving the Chesterton community.

Chuck Roth, Jr., current owner and president, began working at Chesterton Feed & Garden Center at the age of 13. In 1980, Chuck and his father, Chuck Roth, Sr., purchased the store from Laverne Burchfield. The Roth’s set a goal for Chesterton Feed and Garden Center to be a unique garden center with high quality products, personal service, and expert advice.

They felt very strongly about supporting their community and involved themselves in local philanthropy and events. Today, Chesterton Feed & Garden Center occupies one and one-quarter acres of retail area, half of which is devoted to nursery and landscape plants.

With over 3,500 sq. ft. of greenhouse space, Chesterton Feed & Garden Center boasts a very unique selection of flowering annuals, herbs and vegetables. The outdoor display areas containing over 7,500 sq. ft. of garden and patio décor are pleasantly designed to inspire creative ideas for the customer’s home and garden.

The 6,000 sq. ft. of indoor retail space houses departments such as pet supplies and foods, nature products which include wild bird feeders, seed and accessories, water gardening and farm pond supplies, home and garden lawn-care products, gardening tools, and garden gifts including lawn and garden décor. With over 80 years of serving the community, Chesterton Feed & Garden Center has stood the test of time with a loyal following and is continuing to attract new customers each year.

This weekend holds great surprises for avid gardeners. Saturday, April 11 only, a free First Editions® Strawberry Sundae Hydrangea will be given away with a $60 or more purchase, while supplies last.

Plant expert, Dave Warning from Bailey Nurseries, will be present from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to talk about shrubs, perennials, and trees, and answer any plant questions you may have. A representative from Earthborn Pet Food will also attend, and give tips on caring for cats and dogs. The first 35 customers on Saturday morning will also receive a free glove and tool gardening set with their purchases.

Customers are also invited to enter their names to win prize drawings valued over $1,200 from every corner of the store: a pet supply gift basket, 6-month supply of Precise dog food, 6-month supply of Precise cat food, a decorative spring kit with items from the gift area, a weather-proof Green Sky Café Bird Feeder, and an outdoor fountain.

Winners will be drawn on Sunday, April 19, the last day of the 35th Anniversary Sale.
