On Sunday, April 19 from 2-4, the Chesterton Art Center will host an opening reception for “Cre8″ – a collection of artwork from the preschool and after school art students. Each week, the Chesterton Art Center offers (8) art classes to children ages 3-16. Jennifer Martin, the instructor, selects a different artist each month as a focus for the art projects.

This year, artists have included Joan Miro, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, Michelangelo, Piet Mondrian, Robert Indiana and Henri Matisse. Students have worked with a huge variety of mediums and techniques such as painting with tea bags, painting with shaving cream, making creatures using papier mache, creating tempera paint using egg yolks, painting on the underside of a table (much like Michelangelo did the Sistine Chapel), drawing still lifes, and working with air-dry clay.

The “Cre8″ children’s exhibit will remain hanging at the Chesterton Art Center until April 29. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton, IN 46304.
