Vendors sought for annual Pet Walk-a-Thon and vendor fair

HSCA invites the community to attend its 23rd annual Paws in the Park, a family- and pet-friendly walk-a-thon and vendor fair. The event takes place on Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Main Square Park in Highland.

Vendors of all types – pet product, arts and crafts, and food vendors, as well as service providers, demonstrators and more – are invited to participate in the event. Vendors will be offered a 10’x10’ space.

The walk-a-thon and vendor fair are free and open to the public. The annual fundraiser will feature entertainment, contests, games, treats and more.

The walk-a-thon begins at 10:15 a.m. with registration from 9-10 a.m. Walkers can register individually or as a team to raise funds for the animals of HSCA. Leashed pets with a current rabies vaccine are welcome to participate in the walk and attend the event.

Walkers are asked to raise pledges and can earn pledge prizes including a mini button, magnet, t-shirt, tote, hoodie and $50 gift certificate at various pledge levels.

Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities also are available. Proceeds from the event help provide medical care and basic necessities for the animals of HSCA. Download walker pledge packets, vendor applications and sponsorship information at www.hscalumet.org/pawsinthepark.

Founded by concerned citizen Miss Evelyn Sweitzer in 1941, HSCA aims to lead the community in the humane treatment of animals by providing vital community services. In 2014, nearly 1,750 homeless animals found homes through HSCA and more than 190 lost animals were reunited with their families.

Additional HSCA services include spay and neuter surgeries for families with financial hardship at Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic, pet therapy teams that visit nursing homes and assisted living facilities, a humane education team that teaches local children about pet safety and compassion, and rehabilitation for wildlife at Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
