The City of Valparaiso, the Parks Department and the Parks Foundation encourage families, friends, and individuals this Memorial Day holiday weekend, to remember those who have served and given the ultimate sacrifice. The City will hold a Memorial Day observance at the Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows on Friday, May 22 at 8:30 AM.

Tradition continues as the ceremony includes posting the colors of the United States of America, words of welcome and gratitude from Mayor Jon Costas, and recitation of the community member names on the Duty and Sacrifice monument.  United States Navy veteran Jim Spanopoulos will offer his reflections of service to country.  Spanopoulos was also a major proponent in the fundraising and building of Veterans and Volunteers Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows Park, a project of the Valparaiso Parks Foundation completed in October 2003.  All citizens are invited to this ceremony as well as to other ceremonies that will be held throughout the weekend to honor our military veterans.  The City of Valparaiso, the Parks Department, and the Parks Foundation wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.
