The Portage Summer Music Series presents “Monterrey”

The Portage Summer Music Series will feature “Monterrey” on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Portage Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Rd, Portage in the Oakwood Grand Hall.  This popular band plays music and song that is past and present, the show is free to the public.

Impressively, veteran band Monterrey has performed over the years in all major local venues, as well as opening for top rock acts, including Styx, Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, and Fuse– later to become Cheap Trick.  David Alamillo, one of Monterrey’s founding members, is lead guitarist  and main musical arranger; brother Joe Alamillo plays bass; and James Uram is the drummer and percussionist. “What sets Monterrey apart is the diversity of music we perform,”  says David Alamillo, explaining the band’s appeal.  “The years of experience have led our band through multiple musical genres: 60s, English Invasion, Motown, Heavy Metal, Disco, Latin, and Alternative– to name a few.”

In addition to a cash bar, hot food, snacks, sweets, and soft drinks, will be provided by Von’s Victorian Bakery, Tea Room and Cafe, will be available for purchase.

Moreover, every concert serves as a collection place for food items such as donated canned and jar goods, baby food, and non-perishable boxed grocery goods for the Portage Food Pantry and .  Personal hygiene and household cleaning items, as well as infant/children’s clothing, coats, and gasoline gift cards are collected for Gabriel’s Horn homeless shelter. Donations are not required to attend concerts.

The Summer Music Series is produced in partnership between Portage Township Live Entertainment Association, Portage Chamber of Commerce, and Portage Dept. of Parks and Recreation, The concert series is made possible by grants from the John W. Anderson Foundation and Porter County Community Foundation, and by donations by local businesses and individuals.
