Are your kids worried about going to the doctor? Let NorthShore Health Centers help ease their fears at their first ever Teddy Bear Clinic. Kids can bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll in for a free health check by a medical professional. Parents, watch your child’s medical fears disappear as teddy undergoes shots, first aid procedures, dental check-up and vision exams.  All children that attend will be entered into a raffle for a free Build-A-Bear and also meet Bearemy, the Build-A-Bear mascot. Join NorthShore on Tuesday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the NorthShore Medical Location, 2490 Central Avenue, Lake Station. Event sponsors include MDWise.

NorthShore Health Center is a not-for-profit community based health and education center providing medical, dental and eye care services to everyone including the uninsured and underinsured community of Northwest Indiana. Our mission is to ensure that each individual has a medical home and access to the highest quality healthcare, regardless of gender, age, race, social or cultural standing and/or ability to pay.

NorthShore’s Teddy Bear Clinic is part of the Prenatal/Family Care Coordination Program. The goals of Prenatal/Family Care Coordination Program starts with providing pregnant women with the educational foundation they need during their pregnancy, by promoting early intervention, reducing preterm deliveries, low birth weight infants, infant deaths, and having a positive pregnancy outcome. After birth, the goal is to provide parents/guardians with assistance in learning how to best care for their own family through education on health/wellness, child development, nutrition, safety, parenting, and access to services that address the families’ unmet social services and medical needs.

The program team consists of nurses and social service experts who provide mothers and families in the program with individual attention but also group education through classes and events such as the Teddy Bear Clinic. Free classes include breastfeeding, baby basics, CPR, grandparents, and daddy’s classes. Pregnant mothers in the program will enjoy a 2nd trimester Mommy’s Day Out Event and 3rd Trimester Baby Shower. Once baby is born, families can attend NorthShore’s Family Food Fun Group meeting and seasonal events such as Wild About Mom’s Mother’s Day Celebration, Patient/Family Appreciation Week, Baby Boo’s Harvest Fest and Cookies with Santa.

NorthShore Health Centers’ other services include Family Practice, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Behavioral Health, Radiology, Urgent Care, Dental and Eye Care. Our medical centers accept most major insurance plans, but we also offer an affordable self-pay option for anyone who is uninsured. NorthShore is also an enrollment site for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act/Health Insurance Marketplace. By offering a wide range of coordinated services, we able to continuously work towards our goal of providing accessible health care and illness prevention and education to improve the overall health of our patients and community.
