Banish cries of “I’m bored!” this summer with Taltree Arboretum & Gardens’ Camp Quercus, 450 West 100 North in Valparaiso.

This exciting, outdoor day camp drives kid’s wild about nature as Taltree’s 330-acre property is transformed into an outdoor classroom and playground. Children ages 6 to 14 are engaged in hands-on activities in each of the seven themed, one-week camps. Parents may register their children for one week or all seven.

Themes include Nature Detectives, Wacky Water Week, Nature Explorers, Live Wild Survivor Week, Nature’s Super Heroes and Minds and Machines Week. Hikes, art projects, gardening, outdoor games, animal observations and robotics demonstrations are among the activities planned.

New this year is the Leader in Training (LIT) Program. This is a new leadership development program for 12-14 year-old campers looking to gain new skills, lead activities and make new friends. All LIT participants must attend the first week of camp Monday, June 13 for Junior Master Naturalist training. In the following weeks, the Leaders in Training (LITs) will help lead craft projects, hikes and team-building activities for younger campers under the guidance of the Taltree staff.

Prices range from $149 per week for members to $189 for non-members, with discounts of up to 25 percent for multi-week registrations. Reduced rates for families with multiple children as well as before and after camp care and scholarships are also available.
