The Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group is celebrating “Birding” in Indiana this month with their meeting’s special guest speaker, Barb Lucas, an accomplished educator and nature photographer.  Barb’s mission is to “help people fall in love with the natural world and work to save it”.  With a focus on the importance of conserving our Indiana wildlife, Lucas will give tips on local birdwatching. From attracting birds to your own backyard to recommending the best binoculars for use at birding hotspots with other bird-enthusiasts, Barb’s audience will also garner tips on photographing wild birds and butterflies.  Interested folks are invited to join Chain of Lakes for this free, family-friendly program on Monday, January 23, 7 p.m. at the New Porter County Center for Community Philanthropy at 1401 Calumet Avenue, Valparaiso (6:30 p.m. for the group’s monthly meeting). The 7 p.m. presentation will be followed by a free pizza social Q&A with Ms. Lucas.  The Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Group mission is to protect and maintain our lakes and surrounding environs through education, conservation, pollution monitoring, research, and invasive species control. For more information about the group, email Walt Breitinger at breitin@frontier.com or call 219-462-5821 and visit www.valpolakes.org
