Taltree planning full spring with plenty for family members

Taltree Arboretum and Gardens is listing a full spring of events. The outdoor nature center is located at 450 W. 100 N. in Valparaiso. For more information, call 219-462-0025 or visit www.taltree.org.

Photos with the Bunny – April 8, 9, 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Stop by the Depot and have your fun moment captured by a professional photographer. After your photos, check out the Railway Garden and visit with our live animals, including bunnies, baby chicks, turkeys, goats, and chickens. Admission is $10 per non-member carload, free for members. Photos cost $10 for one 5×7 or emailed digital image.

Easter Egg Hunt in the Garden – April 15, 11 a.m.

Scramble to collect eggs filled with treasures in the Children’s Adventure Garden. Parents are asked to accompany young children and bring their own basket. This event is suitable for ages toddler to 12. No registration is necessary. Admission is $10 per non-member carload, free for members, with no additional fee for the egg hunt.

Fairy Gardens Exhibit – May 1 through June 30, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This trail of whimsical miniature gardens surrounds Heron Pond. Made from natural and recycled materials, each home is unique with a natural landscape to match its personality. Entrance is free with admission.

Mom & Me Acrylic Paint Class – May 7, 2-5 p.m.

Join artist Susan Young in creating a beautiful painting. Mom and child will work together to paint their 16 x 20 inch canvas. Cost is $40 for members, $45 for non-members.

Mother’s Day Pampering – May 7, 11 a.m. to noon

Create at-home luxuries. Participants will work alongside Heather from Soapwood Art Studio to create a zesty and uplifting “Lemon Thyme Salt Scrub” and a soothing “Oat and Herb Bath Bag.” Admission is $35 for member, $40 for non-members.

Fairy Garden Class – May 6 and 20, June 3 and 17, 10 a.m. to noon

Participants will learn how to plan out a Fairy Garden and take care of their plants. Students should bring a 12x12x4 container. Soil, 2 small plants, pathway material, and a fairy is covered by the program fee. A variety of accessories will be available for purchase. Admission is $40 for members,$50 for non-members.

Spring Garden Walk – May 12, 10-11 a.m.

In honor of National Public Gardens Day, join Taltree’s horticulturist for a walk to see spring blooms. Entrance is free with admission.

18 Artists Exhibit – May 13-15

This co-op of artists and artisans will feature their work in Taltree’s Depot. Entrance is free with admission.

Mother’s Day – May 14, 8 a.m, to 7 p.m.

Free admission for moms in honor of Mother’s Day.

Butterfly Walk with John Henry Drake – May 27, 10 a.m. to noon

With the prairie beginning to bloom, butterflies are sure to be out enjoying the flowers. Join John Henry Drake with The Nature Conservancy and learn more about these impressive pollinators. We’ll explore different species, life cycles, and how you can bring butterflies to your home garden. Admission is $5 for members, $15 for non-members.

Memorial Day – May 29, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The holiday features free admission for veterans and active military personnel.
