Portage’s Safety Day this Saturday at Willowcreek Middle School

The Portage Fire Department is hosting a Safety Day to promote bicycle safety and general safetyMove to Trash this Saturday, June 3 in the east parking lot of Willowcreek Middle School, 5962 Central Ave., in Portage from 2 to 4 p.m.

The fire department hopes children will wear safety helmets while enjoying their favorite activities and think about safety in all their activities.

Participants are encouraged to bring their bicycle to the event.

Event highlights include:

-        Rusty the Railcat

-        Portage Jimmy Johns Kids Sub coupon to the first 100 children

-        Bicycle helmet, while supplies and sizes last, provided by Porter Regional Hospital and Portage Kiwanis Club

-        University of Chicago medical helicopter

-        Portage Police K-9 demonstration

-        Fire engines and ambulances on display

-        Conservation police and U.S. Coast Guard representatives
