National Hospital Week is celebrated in hospitals throughout the United States to celebrate the women and men who support the health and wellbeing of their communities through dedication and compassionate care during a week in May according to the American Hospitals Association’s website.  While hospitals across the country are thanking all of their dedicated employees for their contributions Methodist employees also select a non-profit organization to donate and give back to.

This year Methodist employees held a drive for supplies for the Sojourner Truth House, a 501 © 3 not for profit organization located in Gary, Indiana.  Sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ (PHJC) Sojourner Truth House serves homeless and at-risk women and their children. Gifts of household/houseware products and hygiene and personal products were collected in the hospital cafeterias while employees enjoyed their free meal from Methodist Hospital’s administration

“We are so delighted that Methodist Hospital employees selected us to be the recipient of their generosity. All the items will be so helpful for our clients, and this kind of action helps them know the community cares about them. Blessings and thanks to all Methodist staff,’’ said Sister Peg Spindler, Executive Director, Sojourner Truth House.

Methodist Hospitals is a community-based, not-for-profit health system with two full-service acute care facilities in Gary and Merrillville, Indiana, that has been leading the way to better health for residents of Northwest Indiana for almost 100 years.  Methodist Hospitals offers a number of award – winning programs, including its Neuroscience, Oncology, Heart and Vascular Institutes and Breast Care Center. Its range of services also includes Women & Children’s Services, Bariatric Surgery services, Emergency & Trauma services, Immediate Care Centers, Orthopedics & Spine services, comprehensive Rehabilitation services, Behavioral Health and Home Health Services.
