United Way Regional Volunteer Center invites the public to volunteer at United Way Day of Caring on Friday, August 4.

As one of the largest single-day volunteer events in Northwest Indiana, Day of Caring brings together nonprofits, local businesses, municipalities, churches, civic groups and individuals to change lives one project at a time.

“This force of humanity sweeps across the Region promoting good will while helping to sustain a thriving community,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Their support of area nonprofits in this manner is the glue that holds our community together.”

Day of Caring, now in its 15th year, offers more than 90 service projects in Porter and LaPorte Counties. Volunteers can choose from activities such as painting, landscaping, building, cleaning, hosting picnics and taking kids fishing. Volunteers who are unable to leave the office can host collection drives or participate in an American Red Cross blood drive. No experience is necessary. Trained and skilled professionals are encouraged to participate.

The event is sponsored by The Times Media Company, Family Express, Blythe’s, McAfee Animal Hospital, Porter Regional Hospital, AM Stabilizers, NIPSCO, Pace RE/MAX Realty, Valpo Parks and more.

Day of Caring activities kick off with two, free rally breakfasts by sponsor Family Express beginning at 8 a.m. Volunteers receive a free Day of Caring T-shirt.
