Valpo parks offering programs for skaters, bikers, runners

The Valparaiso Park Department reminds the public that summer roller skating is still in progress. Skating is available Monday nights (weather permitting) at the Urschel Pavilion downtown from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults, with a $3 skate rental fee for youth. All ages are welcome.

For those who like to bike at night, the seventh annual Valpo Bike Ride will be held Saturday, Aug 26, starting at 11:00 p.m. Cost is $30 per cyclist for this 15-mile, organized bike ride around Valparaiso. Bikers can register online at www.valpoparks.org.

As part of the city’s Popcorn Festival, the Popcorn Panic five-mile run this year also features a five-kilometer (3.1 miles) race. The running begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept,. 9 from downtown Valparaiso. Entry fee is $30.  Runners may register online at www.runsignup.com.

For younger runners (ages 2-9), the Lit’l Kernel Puff begins that Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10.
