Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s before- and after-school childcare program, known as Kidstop, is expanding into two new school sites this upcoming school year. Childcare services, incorporating Boys & Girls Clubs programs, will now be available in Valparaiso Community Schools’ new Heavilin Elementary and Porter Township Schools’ Porter-Lakes Elementary.

Kidstop, in existence for 28 years, is a before- and after-school childcare program for children in grades K through 5. The program offers convenience by opening as early as 6:30 a.m. until school starts, and after school until 6:30 pm. In addition to providing children a safe place to go before and after school, Kidstop provides a host of additional programs that focus on academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles for youth. Kidstop also offers a healthy snack both in the morning and afternoon for all participants.

“Quality childcare that is affordable often provides challenges for our families, and our Kidstop program offers many parents or guardians the peace of mind that their children are in a fun and safe environment, right in the school setting that is familiar to them,” said Mark Jones, director of operations for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. ‘Our organization is excited by the growing partnerships with our local schools. Offering two new Kidstop sites at both Heavilin and Porter-Lakes Elementary schools gives our club parents and families more options in providing safe, educational, and fun places to go when schools are not in session.”

Two of Kidstops best features are its flexibility and affordability. A family only pays for days children actually use and need the program. Discounts are offered for families that may have multiple children in Kidstop, and fee assistance is available to those with verified need. Kidstop also offers a discount for any Valparaiso Community Schools employee. The most anyone may pay for a week of services is $80.

Kidstop participants must have a current club membership. For new members, club membership can be obtained at the time a family registers their child(ren) into the Kidstop program. Annual membership is $35 per child, or $10 annually per child for families who are part of the free and reduced school meal program. For specific pricing per Kidstop site, visit bgcpoco.org/school-year, or call (219) 464-7282 ext. 229. Registration for the upcoming school-year is open now.
