To commemorate the town’s 50th anniversary this September, Burns Harbor has recently expanded the Food Truck Square to include themed Wednesday events (along with free themed family entertainment, free admission, bounce houses, food trucks and live music) and some themed Saturday events, too.

The Food Truck Square runs each Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. located at 1237 Westport Rd. — at the corner of Haglund and Westport roads, just off of S.R. 149.

Every Wednesday evening, attendees can expect a variety of two to three food trucks to choose from, offering different cuisines and at least two food trucks offering a variety of sweet treats. Each event varies and can provide attendees with anything from craft vendors to classic cars, graffiti art to free face painting, and cocktails.

Recently the Arts on the Square event held July 19 featured local graffiti artist Cas Perez, whom created a piece of art with attendees using spray paint. The spray-painted canvases now serve as gateway signage near the Food Truck Square.

Classic cars also recently lined the square during the recent Better Burn Harbor: Cars Night Out. This highly attended event was sponsored by local dealerships, including Lake Shore Motors and Bosak Chevrolet of Burns Harbor.

The Food Truck Square will continue to provide attendees with a variety of Northwest Indiana’s most popular food trucks throughout the summer season and into the fall, including The Rolling Stone Breaker, King of The Road, Bills Grill, Sizzlebox, Redemak’s, Dogs and Hogs, Lulu’s Licks, Jodis Italian Ice, and Chunky Tacos. All are welcome to attend this unique gathering space filled with food, entertainment, artisans and family fun.

Upcoming events include:

  • Arts on the Square, Aug. 16 features riddles and brats with the option to build and walk a labyrinth
  • Better Burns Harbor: Bikes and Kites, Aug. 23 allows guests to fly kites
  • The Badge & You Friday, Aug. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. is the second annual community and law enforcement appreciation night featuring attendance by area men and women in uniform and their equipment
  • Toasted Marshmallow Day, Aug. 30 features chocolate goodness for all
  • Read & Feed Night, Sept. 6
  • Kids Takeover Chocolate Night, Sept. 13
  • Brews-Blues-BBQ Festival, Saturday, Sept. 16 from 5 to 11 p.m. features rhythm and blues band “Soulshyne”
  • Burns Harbor Brew-Ah, Nov. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. salutes America’s veterans and features two-once samplings of the finest craft beers, spirits and wines from the region. Half of proceeds fund Northwest Indiana-based veterans organization geared toward assisting those with issues that effected their military and civilian careers. Tickets are required for this event.
