Law enforcement officers from the Porter County Sheriff’s Office and the Valparaiso Police Department participated in No Shave November raising more than $11,000 to benefit their community.

Working with United Way of Porter County, the two police departments during the month of November allowed officers and employees to grow beards and mustaches to raise funds to support the more than 60,000 residents that benefit from United Way of Porter County supported programs.

“All of our employees look forward to No Shave November. Our female employees get to wear a modified uniform if they participate. Although the guys like to grow beards, I think it’s important to remember our funding goes to support United Way of Porter County and the partnering agencies they serve,” said Jeff Biggs, Chief Deputy for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department. “We could not be more proud of them for taking up the challenge.”

United Way of Porter County supports more than 60 programs in the community that cover a variety of services, including life skills development, mental and behavior counseling, mentorship programs, hospice care, disaster relief and more. These programs support more than 40% of Porter County residents.

“We could not do what we do without the support of the community,” Kim Olesker, president & CEO for United Way of Porter County shared. “Thank you to our law enforcement for keeping us safe and choosing to help their communities by support our efforts.”
