Girl Scouts deliver Comfort Bags to the Ronald McDonald House.

Local Girl Scout Troop 266 and 466 are partnering with The Flamini Foundation to assemble comfort bags to deliver to sick children at the Ronald McDonald House of Advocate Children’s Hospital.

A comfort bag was created by The Flamini Foundation in order to bring comfort and essential items to families of sick children staying in hospitals. These bags include items such as blankets, travel essentials, books, puzzles, games and small snacks.

Each troop member is sponsoring a comfort bag by reaching out to friends and family to collect all of the items on the list. They are also reaching out to other troops in the Joliet, New Lenox and Mokena area.

“The Flamini Foundation helped when my friend’s daughter had been at Lurie Children’s Hospital suffering from a heart condition and was critically ill,” Troop Leader, Beth Lamb, said. “When we were thinking of community service, I thought this was a great way to give back.”

This will be the Girl Scout Troops third time working with the foundation. Two years ago the girls assembled and delivered 60 bags and received a Bronze Award badge. Last year, they beat that record and delivered over 80 bags.

“The girls learn how they can help others in the community by using The Flamini Foundation as a role model and see firsthand that it only takes one person to make a difference in someone’s life,” Lamb said.

The Girl Scout Troops are hoping to beat their record from last year and make over 80 comfort bags. The bags will personally be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House by the Girl Scouts. They will also put together meals for the families.

“This teaches the girls a valuable lesson,” Lamb said. “Individually you can make a big difference. But together, we can make a greater difference.”

The Flamini Foundation was founded in 2009
