Support for Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association offers three local support groups: at its Merrillville facility at 8679 Connecticut St. on the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in Michigan City at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 101 St. John’s Rd., the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m.; and at the Valparaiso Public Library, 103 Jefferson St., the second Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m. For more information, call 800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org/indiana.

Men’s Support Group

Do you feel overwhelmed taking care of your loved one? You are not alone. Come and join other men who are experiencing the same difficulties you are. The men meet at 8:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the Viking Chili Bowl, 105 U.S. Hwy. 30 in Valparaiso. Senior breakfast is included.

Caregiver Support Groups

St. Agnes Adult Day Service Center in Valparaiso sponsors two monthly Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiver support groups. The women’s group meets from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at Pesto’s Italian Restaurant, 3123 Calumet Ave., Valparaiso. The men’s group convenes the first Wednesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at Viking Chili Bowl, 105 U.S. 30, and Valparaiso. Call 219-477-5671 for more information.

Blood Pressure Screening

NorthShore Health Center provides free blood pressure screenings to walk-in patrons at Westchester Public Library’s Thomas and Hageman branches. Screenings are offered from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the third Wednesday of the month at the Thomas branch, 200 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton, and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Hageman branch, 100 Francis St. in Porter. For more information, call 219-921-0964 ext. 1150.
