Friends and family gathered for a ribbon-cutting to officially welcome Journey Senior Living of Valparaiso, 74 East. Journey Way in Valparaiso to the community. President of Journey Senior Living, Blair Minton, and the Merrillville and Valparaiso staff welcomed the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce, and Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce to the new community.

“Safety, security, love, compassion, and dignity,” Blair echoed the mission statement in his commencement speech. “Whether we make money or lose money, it doesn’t matter, because if we don’t provide those five things then we fail.”

Laura Carpenter, Valparaiso Marketing Director, expanded on Blair’s thoughts when she said, “We consider this place as a home for the residents, not a place where we work, and we are just blessed and thrilled to be helping them out in their day-to-day lives here in Valparaiso.”

That deep connection to God and Christianity could be felt the entire night. “It’s the teachings of the New Testament that talk to us about loving one another more than you love yourself, and if we’re not loving these people, we’re not giving them good care,” said Minton. “That’s who we are, that’s our mission, and that’s what your loved ones would find if they were to come here.”
