On Saturday, June 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Members Advantage Credit Union (MACU) will host its annual Shred Day. Shred Day helps bring awareness to identity fraud prevention as well as provides a valuable, free service to the public.
“By destroying confidential material, people dramatically decrease their risk of becoming a victim of identity fraud. It gives us a chance to help people protect themselves and is also a great way for us to give back to our community,” said Frank Beachnau, president of MACU.
Shred Day is open to the public and will take place at MACU’s Michigan City branch located at 3064 Ohio St. Any documents that are no longer needed but include sensitive information should be shredded.
Michigan City Branch Manager Russell Dahl added, “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this free service. Taking small steps to protect your identity like signing up for our free E-statements or shredding sensitive documents can make a huge difference in reducing your odds of becoming a victim of identity theft.”
Documents that are typically shredded include:
• Tax information & returns
• Insurance, utility bills, etc.
• ATM & credit card receipts
• Paycheck stubs
• Bank statements
• Cancelled checks
• Personal documents
• Credit card statements
