Chesterton Art Center is hosting a “Listen with Your Heart: Using Mindfulness, Art, & Journaling for Self-Discovery” workshop for teens ages 12-16 on Monday, June 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Because teenage years can be both magical and stressful, this event will provide tools to help handle the stress and fully enjoy the magic.

Jane Lump, Wendy Marciniak, and Lisa Joesten will lead the workshop, which will include the following exercises:

1. Mindfulness practices to live fully in the present moment, without judgement, and with an attitude of kindness and curiosity to tune out or tune in, when needed.

2. Painting techniques to tap into the creative spirit and express feelings through color, texture, and technique.

3. Journal writing exercises to explore the whisperings of the heart and flex the storytelling muscles.

The workshop will encourage the teenage participants to channel positive and productive energy towards insights and growth, learning new methods and techniques for self-expression in everyday life.

Cost for the workshop is $65, with members of the Chesterton Art Center receiving a $20 discount. All supplies and a pizza lunch will be included. The maximum number of students is 12 to create an intimate atmosphere where each person can get the most out of the experience.

Registration can be done online through the website, www.chestertonart.com, or through the art center at 219-926-4711. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton.
