NorthShore Health Centers of Indiana recently announced the ground breaking for its flagship facility. The new office will be located in Portage on Willowcreek Road, one block south of Route 6 across the street north from Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute and west from Porter Regency Hospital – Northwest.

The public was invited to the ground breaking ceremony of NorthShore Health Centers of Indiana on Monday, Sept. 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for an introduction to the NorthShore’s newest health clinic, providing a wide range of comprehensive quality healthcare to the community including the uninsured and underinsured.

NorthShore provides medical services in the areas of pediatric, OB/GYN, family practice, radiology, dental and eye care, as well as Hoosier Healthwise and Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment assistance.

“Twenty years ago, NorthShore started in Portage High School and we were fortunate to find such a space so close to the heart of Portage. We saw that by combining our facilities, we not only can offer new services, but we can expand our reach. We really wanted to be accessible to all residents. Our new location will help us continue to grow and evolve to keep pace with our community’s needs, allowing us to provide exceptional quality, affordable healthcare to everyone including the uninsured and underinsured in Portage,” said Jan Wilson, chief executive officer.

NorthShore Health Centers is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality, affordable healthcare to everyone including the uninsured and underinsured in Porter and Lake counties.

NorthShore has four dental offices located in Portage (Stacy McKay Center), Lake Station (Dr. Fernando Rivera Dental Center), Merrillville, and Hammond, which provide preventative as well as corrective dental care to the communities being served.

NorthShore is always striving to improve its quality of care. Its facilities employ general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, prenatal care coordinators, family care coordinators, patient care coordinators and community in-reach and outreach workers. Behavioral health consultants work with primary care providers to ensure that emotional and behavioral issues are addressed, as well as physical ones. Service is provided regardless of ability to pay, company officials report.

Other NorthShore services include: digital x-ray, ultrasound, bone density scan, mammography, and laboratory services are also present on-site. A fully functional pharmacy is available at the Lake Station and Scottsdale center under the direction of pharmacists employed by NorthShore.

NorthShore offers a sliding-scale based on income for those with no medical insurance who qualify. Based on yearly household income, patients can pay from a minimum of $25 (zero percent on the sliding scale) up to $65 (100 percent on the sliding scale) for an office visit. This sliding scale does not cover lab and other outside fees, however, as those prices are set by third-party providers.
