Join us for a microbrew sampling, come and enjoy numerous selections all in one place on Saturday, Oct. 6

Pat’s Liquors and Leroy’s in Porter are offering their town a chance to sample over 60 microbrews all in one place on a fall afternoon.

This year’s Porter’s Perfect Pint is Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon to 5:00 p.m. in Hawthorne Park, 500 Ackerman Drive in Porter. Those hours are for patrons with VIP passes; general admission hours are 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Liz Tilden, the owner of Pat’s Liquors, is the acknowledged microbrew expert in the presenting team, according to Leroy Flores, owner of Leroy’s.

“I use microbrews all the time,” said Flores. “But I haven’t sampled over all 60 of the ones we will have there.”

Flores said he and Tilden wanted to do something unique for their hometown. Originally planned for July, too many conflicts with other offerings prompted Tilden to suggest making it an Oktoberfest type of event.

All proceeds every year benefit the Porter Volunteer Fire Department and Porter Parks Department for use on programming, training, equipment, and other community events. To date the Porter Perfect Pint Festival has raised over $100,000.; donated between both departments.

“We just started talking and came up with this,” said Flores. “It will be a fun time to mix with friends and people who just want to have a good time.”

Tilden said the idea is indeed to offer samplings to local clients.  “We have a bunch of local breweries represented,” she said.

Many of these microbrews are offered in restaurants and there are seasonal offerings as well.  Tilden said the idea is to let someone try something they’ve wanted to sample or discover a new brew.

“We definitely have made this an annual event,” she said. An area native, she sees this as an extension of customer service as started by her dad and mom. As the oldest daughter, she is happy to carry on the family business as a second-generation business owner.

“We’ve been in business since 1974 and I’ve been in charge 30 or 31 years,” she said.

“We wanted to put something out there within our little area here. What’s nice is people can really learn from this,” she said. “Craft beers offer so many options. Plus, either the brewers themselves or their representatives will be there to explain.  Everyone’s got an opinion on their beer. Certainly, tasting it is the best way to find out which one you might like to pursue.”

Also featured at this year’s event are a silent auction, numerous raffles, and various ciders, live acoustics music by Ronn Barney and John Derado and food vendors.

Tickets are sold in advance only and will not be sold at the gate. Ticket prices are $40 for general admission, $55 VIP and $15 designated driver.  Quantities are limited. Those attending must be 21 to enter, with a valid ID required, regardless of age.  All ticket holders will receive a commemorative pint glass; supplies are limited.
